To Sookie, Happy Birthday!

Quita and Ruffles

This past week has been a tough one here. My recent blood test indicated that I have issues to deal with. Either the Zetia has caused my ALT and AST readings to go up or the Hepatitis C is active.

During the last year I got lax and stopped taking the Milk Thistle and also started eating pretty much whatever and apparently that strategy isn't working so.

I started the Milk Thistle again along with a bunch of other herbs and I've quit the Zetia and on May 20 I'm going to the VA liver people in Palo Alto for a consultation. I haven't decided whether to take the traditional treatment or not because it's long and can be unpleasant.

Hi,

I've been in the group for a week or so reading the posts and some of the archives.
Would I be correct in assuming most folks in the group subscribe to the belief that
there is only one way to cure HCV and that is conventional treatment?

In some cases, hepatitis C resolves on its own. Has there been a study of those
cases to see if the people involved did anything to encourage their cure?

My intro:

The VA from a blood test determined that I have HCV and my ALT and AST readings
are elevated. I have no other symptoms. I don't know if they did any more tests but will find on in two days at my liver clinic appointment.

My risky behavior was several decades ago.
Wednesday I have an appointment with the liver clinic. I went through this same routine
several years ago and declined treatment.

The readings went up to ALT 164 and AST 218 on the last blood test and there were a few changes in my life during that time. I was put on Zetia for cholesterol. They took me off the Zetia when the higher readings came back and told me to take fish oil for cholesterol which
I have been doing.

Also during the last year or so I for some unknown reason decided I didn't need to take
milk thistle anymore and quit taking it. I'm now taking it again along with other herbs.
I also let my diet and weight get out of hand, gaining weight and eating too much fat.

In the two weeks since the blood test I've changed quite a bit of my lifestyle eating way
better food, less of it, and getting more exercise. I've lost 2 pounds in the last two weeks.
I'm hoping my blood tests coming up will reflect these changes. I'm also using the HCV
meditation audio CD that is available on amazon.com.

As a note to the readers. I don't need to be lectured about only one cure since statistics
have shown that some people do resolve their HCV without treatment. Furthermore I know
of someone who has done so. I have no intention of undergoing conventional treatment
at this time. I'm 66-years-old. I won't be having a biopsy either since 10,000-1 are very
poor odds for the mortality rate of that procedure. I know too many people who went into
the hospital through the front door and left through the back door if you know what I mean.

That's my story and you know my question, the folks who cured theirs on their own.
Did it just go away or did they help it go away?

Look into supplementation with alpha-lipoic acid.
